The central tenet of the environmental movement
is the call for a sustainable approach to the management of the
natural world. Humanity’s use of, and impact on, natural resources,
is seen as damaging the eco-system on which we and future generations
depend for survivial.
Issues that environmental groups might work on
include a more sustainable approach to resource extraction, especially
fossil fuels; reducing the negative impact of the release of man-made
products into the environment, such as pesticides or waste or the
protection of land, flora and fauna.
Today, the call for us to live more sustainable
lifestyles in the West is becoming ever more urgent as the impacts
and consequences of consuming excessive resources, such as climate
change, species destruction, and its damaging impact on the developing
world intensify.
