Since the 1990’s,
the growing interaction and interdependence of people across the
world is seen by many as having potentially devastating consequences
for equality and global justice. Though proponents claim it brings
prosperity to all, it is often seen as plundering and profiteering
by governments and corporations, especially from the West. Negative
effects include cultural assimilation via cultural imperialism and
the destruction of local society and culture.
There are many organisations campaigning
to highlight and address these problems, and promote alternative
global institutions and policies, which address the moral claims
of poor and working classes, as well as environmental concerns in
a more equitable way.
